Hound and Ship Trails

Hound and Ship Trails

Flying ships leave a trail. This update adds Hound, a scout that can read those trails.

Ship trails

Every hex a ship flies spends energy. That energy lights a short trail on the map. The trail fades over time.

You only see foreign trails. Your own ships do not show this way. A commander with a Hound of their own can still read yours.

Hound

Hound unlocks with Signal Tracing after Line Warfare. Inside its 30 hex scanner range you can see trails on the map.

Two player screens of the same system. Left has no Tracer. Right shows a Hound, foreign traces and radar range.

Loud and quiet

Trails appear bigger and more vibrant the more intense the trail is. A bigger ship or a ship blasting on Sprint will leave a bigger trail than a small cruising ship.

You can see a big fleet possibly for a week whereas a small ship's trail fades within a day.

Hover or tap a patch of cloud to see Intensity.

Time and nebulae

In open space trail strength halves every 20 hours. A loud trail lasts longer than a quiet one. Inside a nebula the same trail halves every 2 hours. Crossing a cloud is a way to drop off the map faster. Ships also fly at half speed in nebula hex so that trip takes longer.

How long trails stay visible and how strength falls off over time

Clear skies, commanders.
